Douglas “Doug” McClive passed in peace surrounded by his family on Oct.19, 2023 in Windsor, Calif.
Born on Jan. 8, 1950 in Buffalo, N.Y., Doug took the “quality of life” plunge back in 1974 and moved full time to Garrett County to assume the position as chef at the Four Season’s Restaurant, Will O the Wisp and later at Silver Tree Restaurant.
With 34 years in the restaurant business, Doug, Rebecca McClive, and business partner Debra Savage established McClive’s Restaurant on Deep Creek Drive in 1987. Doug and his family operated the locally celebrated restaurant until 2001.
Doug carried his love of Deep Creek Lake and all of Garrett County forward (2002-2023), along with his professional partner Ed King, to Long & Foster Real Estate, now Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations & Sales. He was an Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR) and member of MAR & NAR and was a six-year officer of the Garrett County Board of Realtors. His resort property niche and professional resources placed him among Deep Creek’s top producers every year.
Elected 2009 and 2014 REALTOR® of the Year by the Garrett County Board of REALTORS, he was named Top Producer, and a Long & Foster Gold Team member.
He was active in many local charities, including Deep Creek Lions Club, providing leadership as Membership Chair in 2013-2014 and participating in frequent fundraising events such as Casino Night and the Blind Skiing program at Wisp Resort, offering his world famous “Dougy Dog’s” barbecue at the Soap Box Derby.

This year, the Civic Club Café introduces Chicken Matzo Ball soup due to popular demand. Additionally, a limited number of quarts of soup will be available. A highlight of the market is the ‘Winners Choice’ raffle, now in its second year. Raffle ticket holders will have the chance to choose between a $500 cash prize, a basket filled with gift cards and items donated by local businesses, or a beautifully crafted full/queen size quilt. The quilt, known as “Chandelier,” is made from donated fabric scraps and has garnered considerable attention and admiration.

Currently, he is enrolled as a doctoral student at Michigan State University, where he is in the final year of study, specializing in the Boone and Crockett Quantitative Wildlife Center. He resides in Garrett County with his wife and two daughters.

Fishing spots to receive trout allotments in October
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources will begin fall trout stocking in early October. Department crews will transport thousands of state hatchery-raised brown, golden, and rainbow trout and release them in select creeks, rivers, lakes, and ponds across the state.
Due to several variables that can alter schedules, stocking sites and times are not announced in advance, but are available immediately afterward. Anglers are encouraged to sign up for email updates to receive the latest stocking information.
Starting in October, anglers can call the trout stocking hotline at 800-688-3467 on Fridays for a weekly update on all locations stocked. The department publishes daily stocking updates on its trout stocking webpage and posts them on Facebook and X, formerly known as Twitter.
As a reminder, regulations are in effect requiring catch-and-release fishing only for brook trout in all put-and-take trout areas and all waters east of Interstate 81. Anglers should take time to properly identify brook trout, which are not stocked by the Department of Natural Resources. Some stocked streams have seasonal restrictions so anglers should consult the current Maryland Guide to Fishing and Crabbing for all regulations and restrictions.
The public is advised that bridge inspection will be taking place on the date of Tuesday, October 3, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Sang Run Road Bridge over Youghiogheny River. During this timeframe, the bridge will be closed to traffic.
Alternate routes of traffic during this temporary closure include Oakland Sang Run to Swallow Falls Road and Cranesville Road to White Rock Road.
The public can address any questions regarding the temporary bridge closure to the Garrett County Department of Public Works – Roads and Engineering Division at 301-334-7488 or Tracy Kelley at 301-334-7482.
The Department of Public Works – Roads Division has been advised that Glendale Road is planned to be re-opened to traffic on Friday, September 29, 2023.
Zeddock Miller will be temporarily closed for approximately four weeks for the purpose of completing tie in to the Glendale Road realignment.
Alternate routes of traffic during the closure will include Paradise Point Road and Paradise Heights Road.
