LOCAL BOARDER TO COMPETE NATIONALLY — Sixteen-year-old local snowboarder Colin Lynch will participate in the United States of America Snowboard Association’s National Championship at Copper Mountain in Colorado on Saturday. Lynch qualified for the national competition by taking the top overall position in the junior boys’ 16-17 division in the USASA Appalachian Series, a regional league which encompasses Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia. He competes in all five competitive snowboarding disciplines: slopestyle, halfpipe, boardercross, slalom, and giant slalom. This year after 21 regional events, Lynch will make his fourth trip to the competition at Copper Mountain. When not contending at the national level, the honor student is a coach and a member of the Deep Creek Winter Sports Team, a member of the Southern High School soccer and tennis teams, and a participant in the Model UN Club. He is the son of Elyzabeth Savage and the grandson of Drs. William and Ruta Savage of Swanton.
