Who I Am
My name is Jay Ferguson, and I am a lifelong resident of the Deep Creek Lake area. I am also co-owner of the real estate side of Taylor Made. I have been in the real estate business for 21+ years now and I LOVE what I do! I have to say, my career really took off when I co-founded the real estate side of Taylor Made in 2014. Its been an amazing experience, building a real estate company from the ground up and achieving so much so quickly! In August 2016, we purchased Long & Foster Real Estate Deep Creek, where I had started my career in 2000. In 2018, we on-boarded virtually every agent from Coldwell Banker Deep Creek Realty as they closed up shop and the real estate family grew even more! We now have over 40 sales agents and have expanded to West Virginia and Pennsylvania, as well. Taylor Made is the #1 vacation rental company at Deep Creek with over 475 vacation rental homes, and over one hundred thousand yearly visitors. Its amazing what we have accomplished using the principles of honesty, teamwork and customer service!
Personally, my wife Jessica and I enjoy traveling and especially spending time in the outdoors, hiking and exploring the many diverse areas that Garrett County is naturally blessed with. We have raised two wonderful children here, Kayleah (22) and Noah (13). In the summer, we love spending time on the water with friends & family and enjoying the lake life! We are both active in our church, our community & local school activities, and we fill our schedule with plenty of volunteer efforts. I currently serve on the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity. I am proud to say that I was named Deep Creek Time’s Favorite ‘Community Champion’ in 2019. I was also named Garrett County Realtor of the Year in 2018-19, as well.
I really enjoy promoting my hometown. I am very proud of the resort area that has developed over my lifetime and look forward to growing the area even more! Deep Creek Lake has been described as ‘The Lake Tahoe of the east', and I think that speaks volumes about the potential to own property here! Deep Creek Lake isn't really a town or city by itself; it's comprised of three towns: Oakland, Swanton & McHenry, Maryland. I am very passionate about my hometown and am impressed with how many people know about it as we travel around the country. Deep Creek Lake is an amazing place to visit and even better place to live! During the pandemic in 2020, our market exploded and more and more people left their primary residence in the city to live here permanently. With distance learning in schools and tele-commuting becoming the ‘norm’, many more people were drawn to the area to ‘live where they love to play’.

The Deep Creek Lions Club 10th Annual Boat Parade will start from the boat launching ramp at Silvertree Marine in McHenry cove and will proceed in single file past a number of judging stations along the route to Dutch’s Restaurant at Silvertree. Spectators at the judging stations will vote for their favorite boats. Entrants in the parade will need to pay a MINIMUM $50 registration fee, and the number of entries are limited, so be sure to pre-register to ensure your spot. Prizes this year are limited to the custom flag and trophy. All the funds raised benefit our Blind Skier and Camper Programs and our McHenry Community Park. As we toured one of the active listings, we noted the newly stained decks and freshly painted exteriors on many of the buildings.
The terraced stairs to the kayak rack and dock were in great shape and made it easy to get to the water.
With docks in a no wake zone, the cove is peaceful and a great place for birdwatching.

Continuing efforts to offer an accessible and transparent local government, the Garrett County Commissioners are planning a series of public meetings off-site and throughout Garrett County.
This approach showcases the Commissioners’ steadfast commitment to actively engage with residents and ensure that every voice is heard regardless of geographical location.
The first 2023 off-site public meeting is scheduled for June 20 at the Bloomington Volunteer Fire Department located at 77 N Branch Ave, Bloomington, MD 21523.
“We want to continue to think a little outside of the box, so to speak, so we can reach and interact with as many constituents as possible,” said Commissioner Ryan Savage. “We’re looking forward to our next meeting to be held off-site in Bloomington as well as scheduled for a little later in the evening to invite increased participation. Taking our public meetings off-site and county-wide allows us to meet residents where they are, listen to their perspectives, and work together to build a thriving community.”
By holding meetings in the community, and beyond the Courthouse, the Commissioners seek to provide opportunities for individuals throughout Garrett County to actively participate in discussions that shape their shared future.
In addition to this geographical expansion, the commissioners have embraced technological advancements to enhance public viewership of these meetings. Each public meeting is streamed on Facebook to communicate with residents who may face constraints in attending public meetings in person.

Oakland’s Little Yough Family Flicks summer movie series in the Oakland A&E District will return on June 15th with the 2022 film, “Thor: Love and Thunder”, sponsored by Healy Insurance Group, Inc. The Little Yough Family Flicks is a rebranding of the formerly known Oakland Pocket Park Movies. The name has changed but the fun, family evenings will remain the same. Guests are welcome to bring chairs, blankets, food, and non-alcoholic beverages and enjoy the flicks on the big 24’ screen. The family-friendly, free movies are held at the Mountain Fresh Pavilion in the Oakland Town Parking Lot every Thursday evening from June 15th to August 17th, except for Thursday July 6th and Thursday, August 3rd, 2023. There is a change to the start time of the movies this year. The movies will begin at 7pm and are shown rain or shine. This year’s movie schedule is packed with blockbuster hits
Loch Lynn Hotel at Mountain Lake Park, Oakland, Maryland. Built in 1894, opened in June, 1895. Features of the hotel: Maple flooring, elegant ballroom, billiard room, rotundas, parlors, dining rooms–all these on the first floor. Laundry engine at the back of the hotel forced water from the well into a large reservoir fifty feet high for the hotel and surrounding cottages. Occupied an elevated site giving a fine view of Mountain Lake Park. 100 chambers plus apartments for a modern first class hotel. The lake supplies ice for the hotel and town. A large ice house was built to store the ice for home use and for sale. On September 19, 1918 a fire totally destroyed the hotel. Fortunately, there was no loss of life. Only the hotel owner and her daughter were there and escaped unharmed. The hotel had just finished it’s summer season and was empty of guests.

Constellation (Nasdaq: CEG) is embarking on a comprehensive effort to enhance the performance and extend the lifespan of its renewable energy portfolio, with the Criterion wind project in Oakland, Md., serving as the latest recipient of these improvements. The initiative involves investing $350 million to increase the output and efficiency of Constellation’s renewable fleet, delivering more carbon-free electricity to the region.
The repowering of the Criterion wind project aims to boost its efficiency, increase power generation, and extend its operational life by 20 years. By implementing these enhancements, Constellation will enable its existing carbon-free wind fleet to generate greater output under similar wind conditions, resulting in an additional 315 megawatts of capacity.
This investment by Constellation aligns with its commitment to lead the nation’s response to the climate crisis and support Maryland’s clean-energy growth initiatives. It also helps to achieve the ambitious environmental goals set forth by the Maryland General Assembly and the Moore administration. Currently, Constellation operates 27 wind projects with a combined capacity of approximately 1,400 megawatts.
Joe Dominguez, President, and CEO of Constellation, emphasized the company’s dedication to carbon-free energy production and its commitment to unlocking even more clean energy through strategic investments. “Our investment strategy will unlock even more clean energy from our existing facilities to help the nation meet its ambitious climate goals,” he stated.
In addition to the substantial investment in Maryland, Constellation has recently made significant announcements regarding its commitment to clean energy. This includes the acquisition of a 44 percent ownership stake in the South Texas Project nuclear plant and intentions to seek license renewal for its Clinton and Dresden nuclear plants in Illinois. Furthermore, Constellation has launched an $800 million uprate project at the Braidwood and Byron nuclear facilities in Illinois. The company has also made advancements in hydrogen production at the nation’s first one-megawatt nuclear-powered clean hydrogen facility in upstate New York. Additionally, Constellation achieved an industry record for blending high concentrations of hydrogen with natural gas to reduce emissions at its Hillabee Generating Station in Alabama.
Through these strategic investments and initiatives, Constellation solidifies its position as a leader in carbon-free energy production and remains dedicated to driving the transition to a sustainable and clean energy future.
