OAKLAND — The chairman of the Garrett County Commission has sent a letter to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources suggesting a nearly one-acre tract of land in the Turkey Neck development be used for passive recreation, not public access.
“Public access is basically a boat launch for kayaks and canoes with a parking lot,” said Paul Edwards. “Passive recreation is basically preserving the land as is with no infrastructure improvements for people to bird watch, fish, etc.”
In June, the Maryland Board of Public Works approved the DNR’s $1 million proposed land buy. Public lake access would be created on the .96 acres.
